wire giants holding hands
Stills from the late nineties film 'Amongst Giants'.
A group of men set about repainting the stretch of pylons that cross the Pennines in between Sheffield and Manchester, the actors (including Pete Postlethwaite and Andy Surkis) are all eating the scenery but the shots of the electricity pylons give a nice sense of scale.

amateur occultism for electronics

Over christmas I was experimenting with homemade cassette tape loops and general electronic tinkering (mainly the barbie cassette player) but in my travels I found this old retro coloured light noise making toy which once once I'd laid eyes on reopened a whole bank of childhood memories, everything about it so familiar. The 70's disco styled LED's flashing alongside the horrendously loud monotone beeps and odd list of games which are all reduced to pressing the large coloured lights in some vain attempt to discover the rules to the game.

Haunted era .. /\ ..

Music from the kids of a new hauntological age
.///.\,\//.\,///\/\\\//\
///>>/\/\ The spectres are gathering together people are creating new rituals and vessels for our mediatised psyche to flow, gathering dead images and sounds, reincarnating unknown people and pleasures, conjured from the desire to press our eyes and ears right up against the vivid cold glass of the screen. The communal brain is ecstatic with light and noise, channelling forgotten spirits and lost souls. //////......... ...

/////> No longer endlessly repeating itself, culture has begun a reawakening and is in the process of establishing the communities and relations of a technological spiritualism. Negating traditional notions of religion or new age mysticism it garners the plurality of desires through a teleological ordering of the ghosts and remnants of the culture industry.
The long hallowed battlegrounds that shore up distinctions of taste and culturalism are muddied under the feet of many, the mediums are blurring and the dialects confused. This forging of a frenzied spiritualism or digital occult reveals the emergence of belief in a life after death, a life lived through the waves and frequencies whose wisps linger in the static hum of our immortal archives, those who choose to traverse these invisible highways will never forget the faces or sounds of the people who are buried by their way sides.
